JANIE DESPAIN

lead vocals, harmonies

Janie has always had a passion for performing. She has been singing and dancing ever since she was a little girl and has shared her musical talents in front of live audiences at the 2002 Olympic Opening Ceremonies, Capitol Theatre, USANA Amphitheater, Carnival Cruise Lines, International Sandals Resorts, and various collegiate sporting events, to name a few.

In addition to showcasing her magnetic personality on the stage, Janie has also brought her talents into the recording studio and is currently a rising star on iTunes and Spotify.

As a lead singer of The Current, Janie’s dynamic range is on full display throughout each performance and her powerful voice combined with her sassy personality is sure to entertain all who hear her.

MARCUS HERNANDEZ

lead vocals, harmonies

Throughout his musical carrier, Marcus has tried his hand at several instruments including the piano, the drums and the guitar. He ultimately decided singing was his best instrument, mostly because it’s the easiest one to set up and take down.

Many has been involved with many music projects spanning differing genres including vocal jazz, christian, pop, and country. Of his role as a lead singer of The Current, Marcus has said that, “Singing with The Current is my happy place, because I get to sing a little bit of everything.”

Marcus’s impressive vocal range is as powerful as it is polished, and brings an energy to the band rivaled only by his confident, enthusiastic stage presence.

KELLEN TEW

lead guitar, backing vocals

Kellen is a well-established musician in the Salt Lake City area who has played guitar for most of his life. He earned his Bachelors of Music from Utah State University in 2014 and has used his knowledge and experience in both live and studio settings, and also as a teacher. He is at home on the stage and has played a variety of musical styles for large and small audiences alike.

Perhaps most notably, Kellen possesses the unique ability to turn anything into a pun, and prides himself on being called the “Michael Jordan of Dad jokes.” He also loves spending time learning and traveling and hopes to see the world. Kellen is elated to be a part of The Current and the opportunity it presents to work with high-powered musicians who know how to have a good time.

Kellen’s wide range of experience and his devotion to his instrument make him one of the most polished guitar players in the state. Whether it’s his funky rhythm playing on the danceable “Uptown Funk,” his country twang on “Life Is A Highway” or his rocking leads on “Walk This Way,” his refined style is sure to bring a smile to listeners everywhere.

ANDREW JOSE

keys, backing vocals

Originally from Portland, Maine, Andrew’s primary musical influences include the gentle purring of lobsters and the sound of fresh maple syrup being poured onto large stacks of blueberry pancakes. Initially set to spend his life as a moose shepherd, Andrew changed course when he realized the unique opportunity he had to help the world get down to the funkiest of grooves through musical fusion.

Andrew is a passionate musician with over 15 years of experience in both live and studio performance. His experience includes a wide variety of musical styles, including jazz, latin, blues, country, rock, folk, pop, funk, EDM, R&B, soundscape and many more, as well as training on the piano, guitar, and drums.

Andrew has played for both large and intimate crowds everywhere from New England to Hawaii, and enjoys nothing more than being on stage entertaining audiences who love to dance.

Whether he’s improvising a jazzy organ solo, a pop piano piece or an electrifying synth sound, Andrew’s playing brings a remarkable atmosphere that is a signature part of The Current’s sound.

AARON GUMUCIO

bass guitar, backing vocals

Aaron is deeply rooted in music and has been ever since he was young. After experimenting with a variety of different instruments, he  eventually settled on bass guitar and taught himself how to play by the age of 14.

Over the years, Aaron has developed a variety of influences ranging from classic swing to rock, funk, jazz, pop and Americana, all of which have played a part in developing his unique sound and distinctive style.

No matter the song or setting you’ll be blown away by his playing ability, versatility and booming low end that he brings to the rhythm section.

RICH GAILEY

drums, percussion

Rich’s passion for drums started after his first jazz gig at age 17. This singular experience inspired him to dedicate his life to playing and learning the drums. Since then, his live performing experience has covered a diverse assortment of bands and musical styles including rock, punk, heavy metal, jazz, latin, musical theater and country.

Throughout his tenure as a musician, Rich has had the opportunity to play with many groups in Utah such as The Salamanders, L’anarchiste, Dizzy Desoto, Jagertown, The Ambassadors, the Diamond Empire Band, the Dave Bowen Orchestra and many more.

Rich also loves to teach and has maintained a private studio of over 35 students for the past six years. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Performance from the University of Utah, and has had the opportunity to play in many groups there, including the RedHots scholarship jazz combo. He has also received recognition for his talent from music organizations such as the Percussive Arts Society.

Rich brings an unrivaled tightness to the band’s sound and gives each song a powerful groove that will have you dancing until the last beat.
